overhead console removal

I have a 2001 F150 XLT. I want to hook the power wire from my Valentine 1 radar detector up to the wiring that goes to the clock and compass in the overhead console so I do not have to deal with the curly power wire hanging in the way. I can not figure out how to get the console out. Anyone been there.....done that??
Thanks for any and all help...
David

If it's the same as a 2000, there is a screw in the front. Take it out and pull down on the front. There are clips near the back that will pop loose. Don't pull too far, the wires are connected near the front and need to be unplugged.
