Need Some Help Installing Fog Light Switch

Does anyone know how to open up the panel where the light switch is located? I need to find the "tied-off" wire for the fog light switch to install a fog light switch.

My truck didn't come with fog lights ... and of course, there isn't any fog light switch at the Light Switch. And, the relay for a fog lamp in the power box is missing (but would be easy to install.)However, there is a 5 amp fuse in the fuse panel for a fog light.

I found the fog light pigtail, complete with a snap-together-connector, taped off out by my right front headlight. So, I'm all set to connect up my fog light .... almost.

The only problem is opening up the light switch panel, finding the "taped-up" wire for the fog light, and installing a new switch.

I just had another idea. Maybe it would be smarter to just go buy the right light-switch from Ford Parts, that includes the fog light switch? What do you thinik?

Once I find that I can install a rocker switch and the other side to ground and I'm in business. I think. Actually, I have new relays all wired up for my fog lights ... I just need this wire and switch to "trigger" my relay.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

No one else would .... so I answered my own question .... he he he!!

Someone gave me a few clues and here is what I found....
you probably already have fog lights at your switch!!!!

Open your Owner's Guide (that came with the truck) to page 17. It shows that the switch can be "pulled out" to operate the fog lights. I went out to my truck and sure enough, in the lights "ON" position, the switch can be pulled out. So, it's my guess that it is already wired for fog lights.

Next, open your hood and stand by the right front tire looking down into the engine compartment. Right behind your right headlight is a fog light connector all ready to be plugged into the other half of the connector and on to your fog lights. (You could install Driving Lights instead.)

Now, go over to the other side and open your Power Distribution Box. (You'll find a small tab to pull out slightly to open the door.) Have your Operator's Guide open to page 154. Down at the bottom of that page is a layout of all your fuses and relays. If you look down the list on page 156, you'll see that relay, at point 206 on the layout, is where a fog light relay goes. It's empty now. Buy one from your friend dealer.

Finally, look at page 152 in the Operator's Guide and at the top you will see a layout for your fuse panel. It is located right under your light switch at the bottom of your instrument panel. Pop the front panel off and pop off the black plastic inside panel. Now you can see all your fuses and five more relays. Look on the fuse panel layout for fuse 127 (fog light) as listed on page 153. Is there a fuse? Mine has one. So, I strongly suspect that the light switch is all wired up for fog lights. (Thanks Ford!)

So, there you have it. You and I are all set to install either fog lights or driving lights. All we need to add to the wiring harness is a relay to the Power Dist. box. How about that?!!!

Relay Terminals

Bill, I may not have same wiring as you have. I have a '01 150 w/tow pack. I did not see a pigtail on right side. Also, power dist box does not have wiring in place for relay at #206 therefore my truck probably isn't wired for extra lights.

But, I will probably use terminal 206 and install the wiring and relay at that position. Also, my light switch doesn't pull out, but it would be easy enough to install another accessory switch.

Question

Bill,

I discovered these same thing a while back, but never followed up on it. I also noted the same thing John did, in that there are no connectors for the relay to plug into. Have you completed your fog light install yet? How did it go? I have the same truck as you, and I'm intrested in adding driving lights, just haven't got around to it yet! I'm very interested in seeing how your install turs out.
