L 3rd brake light install
L 3rd brake light install
I just purchased the Lighting 3rd brake light for my 99 F150 supercab and tried to install it last night. I pulled the light out and the gromet out of the hole that holds the wire in.
My question is how do you get to the wire conector, do I just keep pulling(felt like the wire would break) or do I have to drop the headlinner down to gain access.
Any help please, thanks

Installing third brake light...
My truck had a third brake light but no cargo light. So, I went to a salvage yard and bought the third brake light/cargo light out of a wrecked vehicle. We pulled the wires out and cut both wires.
Of course, there is an immediate advantage to this, and that is you get all the rubber bulb plugs, bulbs and wiring intact. All I had to do was pull out my existing wiring and undo the tape over the end of the extra wire cut off by a plant installer, an attach my new cargo/stop light. It was a simple matter.
Strip your wires back and twist them together and see if you don't have brake lights. If you do, just use a small electrical connector to join the wires and use electrical tape to tape the connections so they can never come in contact with each other or ground. It's really quite easy.

I have this mod done on my 99 SuperCab. It took me about an hour to complete it. You need to remove the upper c-pillar cover (either side would work), and gently pull the headliner away. You won't need to remove the headliner, just pull away enough to get your hand under the headliner. The connector is located about 7 inches into the headliner and it's held in place by a plastic clip. You can slide the connector off the slider clip by pulling it toward the passenger side. Once this is done, remove the old light assembly and connect the new one.
If all this sound too much to do, you ,might want to try splicing it as BillVoyles recomends... Good luck.
