Stuck in alternator replacement

Started to remove the alternator according to the book got stuck on removing the electrical connectors, Battery lead was easy, the smaller connectors are not cooperating. The small connector has the clip facing the intake, how do you get to it. And the larger connector has two clips, I can get two small scewdrivers in to lift the clips but then I am out of hands to pull the connector off. I figure there has to be an easier way I just didn't want to pry them off and damage something. Suggestions?

Take your time to work it loose by hand. Once it's a little loose inside the connector, you should be able to pull that clip out enough by hand so it will disconnect easily. Have to work it loose first. Use a little alcohol if you have to or WD. Then clean with alcohol/isop (found @ the pharmacy over by the band aids) using compressed air to assist, -if available.

Thing is, that clip on the connector will break easily. Being a 97, it's even more frail or brittle.

BTW- The alternator housing is your direct ground, -so it's a good idea to wire wheel or clean mounting locations on the engine if any corrosion exists.

Keep all your paperwork. Keep in mind, if replacing your Motorcraft Alternator with anything other,- there's a good chance for failure. Some may go thru 2 or 3 under warranty before getting a good one. Not saying that will happen, -it might.

Thanks for the input jbrew, the WD-40 seemed to do the trick.
