Question Interior Lights go out as soon as door closes.

My interior lights use to stay on for about 10 seconds or if I put the key in the ignition and started the truck they would go out. Now they go out as soon as I close the door. Anybody have this problem before? I would appreciate any assistance.

Have you tried disconnecting the battery, wait a few minutes and then reconnect the battery? This may reset the computer and the interior lights may work like they use to.

BlckF150Lariat,

There is a feature that allows the windows to operate for about 10 sec. after the igntition is turned off if the doors are not opened. It's called a " convenience delay" or something similar.

Given that I have not tested my lights to see if it acts the same as yours, try that window delay feature to see if yours does that.

If it doesn't, then maybe it's related to the timer and relay that controls the delay. I know that feature works on mine but I have never really paid much attention to the interior light as I rarely drive after dark.

I will try to rememer and test that light delay for you today.

Thanks XLT_D,
Is this delay feature adjustable? Do you know where this and the relay are located? I appreciate any help you can give me.

Are you talking about the remote keyless system when you push the unlock button on the FOB the lights come on for a short time or until you start the truck.

XLT_D,
I apologize as I did not read your post correctly. (Thanks hmustang) My windows will still roll up after the ignition is turned off providing you do not open the doors. It is the interior lights when you first get in that I was asking about.

Thanks,

BlckF150Lariat

Post Interior lights

Your interior lights might be working off the auto headlight/ time delay switch for the headlights. It's one of the wheel switches on the left hand side of the dash next to the dimmer switch for the interior lights. You can disable it by turning it to the off position and see if that controls your interior light delay.

mine does the same thing, but it comes on when I am driving dwn the road, and some times it does not go out till the timer says so. the light on the dash is lit too. today when I went to work at 530 am after I closed the door and started the truck it stayed on the whole trip to work about 15 minutes then went off. but when I got out it stayed on after I walked away, would like to know what is the problem because it is a intermittent thing, and I am not sure where the switch is.

Sorry I have no ideas on how to fix it. But was glad to help make it clear on what it was you were asking so that someone who knows can help you out and maybe even me if mine ever acts up.

Evan and Black150, do a search on dome light and door ajar and you'll come up with plent of info. This sems to be a somewhat common problem. Get your WD40 ready

Good Luck.

If you can't get the post to come up, here is basically what it is saying because I too had the same problem. The switch in the driver's door (usually, since it is the one used the most) will eventually start to stick and then the light won't go off. Basically shoot some WD40 into the latch mechanism in the driver's door. You might have to stick the tube up fairly far. Solved the problem instantly when I got it on the right spot.
