Exclamation I need your advice SSCULLY

Hey SSCULLY,I just ordered a pair of power, signal and heated mirrors,I read that they just plug and play into the 08 XLTs(power and signal functions work but no heat),but the wiring from before that year is different,I know to get the signals to work I have to move a pin into the #10 pin socket(light green wire with a white stripe i think),so I wanted to know what tools do i need to use(not to remove the door panel but to remove the pin) and whats the best way to move pins around to get the power and signals to work,I don't care about heat function.

Any info is greatly appreciated!

Exclamation

Update 5/25/12

Okay so I had some free time at work and took apart the front door panel and got a good look at the wires running up the 16pin connector only to find out that I'm missing the wire for the signals, there are only 4 wires on the connector red, yellow, yellow, blue.

Is there anything I can do to get the signals on the new mirrors to work? I can't return them since I bought them new on ebay.

Any help is greatly appreciated or any good ideas at this point

Update 5/26/12

Ok heres some more info I learned,my drivers side mirror is from the 04-06 year and passenger side mirror is 04-08 year(the new ones I ordered),if that helps anyone looking at this.

Tap into your turn signal wires and fish them up the door.

Thanks Raptor05121, but I'm still a little lost as to how to wire this, do you know if they sell a harness /pigtails whatever there called that comes wired with signal wire? That way all I have to do is run the wire and tap into the turn signals.

And if not, what size wire is best to use, where do I tap the signal lights into, how do I modify the connector to get the wire I'm running to work with the new mirrors

Not sure how that works for you, but when I wanted to add turn signal mirrors to my current truck, I was told that I needed an XLT harness if I wanted to do that the neat way--no power harness in my XL model to connect to. I assume that meant that back then there were no easy add-on pieces like you mention. If those actually exist, then pray you get part numbers given to you in the thread!

If you are up to it, you could use those nifty blue 2-to-1 crimp connectors and run one end at the mirrors down to (I presume) the kick panels where the other end will be waiting for you to crimp away again.

On my truck, I would have had to tap into a light green/white strip on the driver's side and blue/white stripe on the passenger's side...then just bundle it up with a zip tie or three on each side and tidy it up.

Makes me wonder, because I'm looking at one particular 2008 XLT that has power/heat and I saw a 2008 King Ranch that had the signal and puddle lamp and that got my mind turning...then I hear the 2009 versions fit as well. Oy! Tasca certainly shows the 04-08 style as being discontinued.

Exclamation Update

I did manage to install and wire the mirrors but the signals still don't work,I got the power to work, I ordered the pigtails for the mirrors so that i didn't have to move any pins around (cut off the old pigtail and spliced in the new one,I just cut off the excess wires I didn't need)and I'm pretty sure I spliced into the right wire in the pigtails#10 (ill have to double check) and on the other end I tapped into the green with stripe, and white with blue stripe.I know those are right cause I checked them with a meter.

Do you guys think they need a ground to work?or what could it be?

any info or advice is greatly appreciated, thoughts or comments.

Sorry for the delay, have not been on the site in a while.

The mirror heads you have, the driver's side is the 04-06 MY version, and the passenger side is the 2007-08 MY version ?
- The moving the pins was a change in where the grounds are ( the older version has 3 grounds with an external splice, the newer version is a single ground, internal splice ).

If you have the new version pigtail on an old mirror, you will need to add the missing pins, and make the external splice. This is for pins #2, #9 and #11.
You will need a metri pack pin removal tool to get them out. It slides in next to the pin, and releases the tab in the connector head holding the pin from backing out.
This is what they look like

Pin #10 on the driver's side 04-06 version mirror, the turn signal is the light green w/ white stripe wire, which you will need to fish a wire in the rubber boot from the door to the A pillar.
Once you are inside the truck, you can get the turn signal wire right at the MFS in the column, this is a light green w/ white stripe wire.

The new version mirror with the new version pigtail, the pins should already be in place for what you need, the missing part is the white w/ light blue stripe wire to the turn signal splice. Same as the driver's side, fish a wire in the rubber boot from the door to the A pillar. Once in the cab of the truck, run the wire to the driver's side to the MFS location, to splice to the MFS output white w/ light blue stripe wire.

Make sure to find these color wire, if you go locating them with a test light, you might get the orange w/ light blue stripe wire and the light green w/ orange stripe wire. These are the MFS output to the rear of the truck for the stop / turn lamps ( the turn signals in the mirrors would be on with the brake lamps ).

04-06 MY diagram

07-08 MY diagram

Hope that helps, and sorry for the delay.

Well, the only thing confirmed at this point is posting in threads....

The concept of help has yet to be proven, no QED yet

Hey SSCULLY,I found this diagram online, do you have the one for passenger side?

I'm working on the mirrors and I can't seem to find the one for the passenger side, I want to make sure I'm splicing into the right color wires.

The only thing that changes left to right is the turn signal color code, still uses the same pin #.
The movement, heated backlight, and puddle lamps are the same color codes.

This is the 2005 connector ( looks the same as above ).

This is the 2007 + connector
