Picking the best remote start.

Looking for tips for a remote start system. Looking for something not expensive and fairly simple to install myself. I''m a DIY kinda guy. Don't wanna pay someone to do something I can do myself. Thanks for any help!!

Contact Travis @ KCAutosound

He can help you pick out what you need for your budget, and for a small fee prewire it for your specific MY truck, and provide you the wiring info.

Good guy to deal with, straight shooter.

Bulldog remote starters seem to be the DIY remote starters.. but personally i think they are junk. I would recommened getting a DEI system, thats the only thing I install for my customers. If you know how to read a wiring diagram and know how to make proper electrical connections, you can do this yourself. People get scared when they pull them out of the box and see 50 wires, but truth is you only hook up about half of them. If you do plan on doing this yourself, I'll be a nice guy and let you know which wires go where.

Is the Bypass Kit necessary?? Is getting a remote start kit with alarm more difficult to install?? I found this AVITAL DEI 5303L Security/Remote Start System for $112.00.

Ive installed that unit too many times to count. Its not a bad unit for the price! I mean you get keyless, alarm, and remote starter with 2 way for $110... thats a good deal alright espically if made by DEI. The only thing is, the quality isnt all there and you may notice it (at least i do). Otherwise if you want something with more quality, look at the Viper 5701 or 5901. Most vehicles need a bypass, what kind of vehicle are you putting this in?

Edit: As far as more work than a basic remote starter.. you have to mount a siren and shock sensor and there are a few more wires to hook up.

Are the ones that you can use with your smart phone any more expensive? Or difficult to install? I would say no on the install right.

Oh yes, its like a another cellphone. Id say there like $300 just for the module, plus theres a montly charge to it. Installing, not so bad.

Yes. It is expensive and requires a monthly subscription. It also requires a separate module. Here is a link to the smart start system at best buy....

This one is for the remote start. They also have one for a security system. I do to see one that operates both remote start and security. Here is one for the security system....

My opinion is that it wouldn't make sense to have the smart start for the remote start.

Unless you have money to burn, there really not worth the price they are selling them for. Plus you can get 1 mile range remote start/security unit for about $200.
