I have a factory alarm (lights and horn)that will not stop, I did read where I can lock the door with my key, pull it out put it back in and unlock it and it should reset, I have not tried that yet, it goes off randomly, is there anyway to disable the alarm? Thanks-Lee

 

The random part, is this only when you have unlocked the door and open it, or could it be locked with the door closed and it goes off ?

If it is random after you unlock the truck and open the door ( when locked it does not go off by itself ), I am going to take a SWAG that one or both of the door anti-theft switches are corroded.

The door switch for the factory alarm to the RAP ( 97-98 MY only ) is different than the door ajar light to the GEM.

The door anti-theft switch is a Dark Green w/ Pink stripe wire ( same for both L & Right doors ).

These need to be grounded to disarm the anti-theft system ( RAP ).

Might want to also check that this wire is not broken in the door to a pillar rubber boot as well.

If it is random that it can off when the door is locked and closed, I would check to see if you have signs of water at the bottom of the driver's side kick panel or in the area where the carpet ends on the firewall.

 

Here is what I mean by random.... the alarm has gone off when no one is around it, for no apparent reason, with the drivers door locked or unlock, at that point someone told me to manually push down the lock (not the keypad) and that would insure the alarm not to set... it has gone off since doing that but it cut back the amount, say from once evry two weeks to once every two months, but it still happened... the last time I was getting out of the truck, door about 20% opened when it went off, I no longer have the have the key chain pad so I unhooked the battery but it did not reset it, I was late for work because of this, ugh that was frustrating, I did not know about the "key in door" trick, btw, I tried that and for me it did work, I have unplugged my horn now until I figure this out...
