Installing fog lights

I'm going to be trading rear bumpers with Darren and buying his front bumper with fog cut outs.

I have a 2008 2wd XL. Would mine be pre wired for fogs? I've heard some 2006 and newer models that did not have fogs were not pre wired but have no idea about my 2008.

My truck is at the dealer so I can't check for a few days.

Thanks!

Supposedly if its prewired there will be a group of wires taped up and attached somewhere behind your bumper. I couldn't find anything on my 06 XLT so i wired my fogs through the headlights using HID lighting and a electrical harness pulling power from the battery.

The few I have been through, the wiring from the main headlamp switch to the fog lamp relay in the CJB is not there. The wiring was behind the headlamps, and if the fog lamp relay is removed and jumpered ( the normally open contacts ) the fog lamps worked.

If you are at this stage, you would need to run the wire from the main headlamps switch to the CJB, and wire it into the back of the CJB with a relay terminal ( push in type ) from a bone yard.

Not impossible, but doable.

If you are adding fog lamps, I would suggest making your own wiring harness to a relay to the battery with 12 AWG wire, and trigger that relay with the factory switch ( dirt easy to do, and they can be operational with the high beams without needing to do the bambi mod ). This would get you better light output ( usable lumen ), something that you would want to do if you are using anything other than the factory 9140s ( i.e. 9145 Silverstar, Phillips, etc )

I am in process of modifying a 90mm Hella H7 fog lamp module to the factory mount. Still a few days before I will have it finished, and the write up with take a bit to do. This is one of those as the time is available projects.

If you are not getting the fog lamps themselves with the bumper, thought you might like the option if you can wait or start on it yourself.

I have the standard Sylvania H7 bulb and the Osram H7 Nightbreaker bulbs to try in it ( both 55W ).
There are also H7 bulbs that have selective yellow and OSRAM 65W bulbs, if you want those options.

Make sure you are getting the Fog Lamp Brackets with it, else you will need to order them from ford or get them out of a bone yard.

The Depot replacement is cheap plastic junk, don't bother with it.
