Power mirror and warning chime, 2 separate problems

Updated 1/23/12

Thanks to everyone in advance for any and all advise you give. I have a 1997 F150 with 170K. I bought it in October and don't have a lot of money wrapped up in her and don't want to spend more than she is worth.

Neither of my remote mirror worked at all, nothing. Checked power, OK. Checked ground, OK. Bought a new switch. Passenger side work great. Driver side now moves left and right but not up and down. New motor? are the available or do I buy the whole mirror assembly? Any other fix?

Problem 2. Previous owner replaced the ignition switch. Not sure why. My warning chime sounds every time the engine is off and the door is open. I assume the owner created a grounding problem when replacing the cylinder but not sure. Not sure how to troubleshoot this one. A friend says it may not be the cylinder but something else. Any ideas how to proceed with this one?

The power mirror, it sounds like an issue with the motor on the mirror itself, if the switch operates the passenger side correctly now.

Don't know if you feel like taking the mirror off and testing it with direct DC power or not. If it is a motor issue, you might be able to get a replacement mirror at the bone yard. They might even do a swap if they will not sell the motor out of the mirror head. Worth asking if they want a lot for the mirror.

The chime, sounds like the tab go broken in the key cylinder when it was replaced. Mine broke after an accident and would do the same thing. I removed the key cylinder, and the tab fell out, problem solved for me.

Thread on removing the key cylinder, scroll down to JMC's post ( post #10 )

Here is an update on my two issues.

I replaced the switch for the power mirrors. Right side works great, left side has side to side but no up and down. Will look in to motor or possibly new mirror.

Regarding the ignition warning chime. I pulled the ignition switch and lubed everything that moves. It all looked good. replaced the switch and removed the key. Opened the door and ding ding ding.

Removed switch again. This time I removed the black clip with the plunger switch on it. I figure this will do it. replaced switch and key. Opened door and ding ding ding.

What could be causing this? Apparently it isn't the key in ignition switch. Could it be a bad headlight switch? What else could it be? Any help will be appreciated.
