Exclamation Electrical power goes out while driving!

I was driving home from work when my stereo shut off. Thought I went through a bad reception area when, suddenly, my control panel light went out. Immediately following were my headlights! Fortunately, I was near my house, considering it was dark outside and I seemed to be rapidly losing all electrical power in my truck! I shut my truck off then, tried restarting....No such luck! It was completely dead, was not even slightly turning over!? I left it alone for a few hours and when I went back out and approached the truck I heard a clicking sound coming from underneath right behind the cab. This clicking continued into the next morning. I decided to pop up the hood and disconnect the Alternator Wire from the battery. The clicking noise stopped. Before spending ridiculous amounts of money, that I do not have, trying to figure out exactly what the problem is....Would someone please tell me what this problem sounds like and if it sounds like something that one could, possibly, repair at home??!?

Most likely, your charging system failed and the battery ran down.

Start by FULLY charging the battery with an external charger, then test the charging system.

Fill in your profile so the truck's details show with every post. You can omit "F150" and "19.." or "20..". since we assume that. But put the 2-digit year, engine size, transmission model, trim level, cab/bed configuration & wheelbase, transfer case model (if 4WD), gear ratio, tire size, miles (or KMs), mods, maintenance, damage, repairs, etc. If you run out of room, put it in a signature. If you don't know all the truck's details, read this caption & follow the links in it:

If there are any terms you don't understand, read this: Automotive Terms & Abbreviations

Uploading pics of your truck would also help. This forum supports pics, but it's easier to embed them in your posts if you follow the instructions at this link:
