Looking for a GM type of DRL for my FX4
Looking for a GM type of DRL for my FX4
I'm wanting to find a DRL add-on that I can use to have the amber turn signals illuminate instead of my headlights on part-power. If I hit the turn signal the respective side would flash and they would behave normally when the auto lights come on.
Probably not possible is it?

Anything's possible, but not necessarily legal. Amber lights on the front mean something; white means something else. For DRL, you need white. Driving with only amber is illegal in most places in the US because it means you're parked.
If you want to move the DRL function out of the headlights, add white lights to the truck & wire them up as DRLs.

the last ones that I saw that used the parking lamps as DRLs were the ones with flip up headlamps ( Trans Ams, Vet ). Not too sure what the newer MY of the vet look like for the DRL ( integrated into the headlamp unit ? )
Other than that, they use the headlamps or an external DRL lamp ( H2, pickup, Tahoe, Grand Prix prior to G8 ).
If the parking lamps are on, chances are the person turned on the parking lamps ( this will shut off the DRL function as well as the autolamp ).
Here is a thread on using the parking lamps as a DRL circuit. Don't know if they ever went though with it.

This is for the parking lamps being on in the front only. If you wanted to use the turn signal element ( 26 W element ) that is a bit more involved with relays, and I would not suggest going that route.

I know there for a while they went with the amber parking lights/turn signals on some of them, and now they have gone with the aux light kind of thing. Just thought it might be better than the main headlights on my 2011 going low-current all the time during the day.
My 04 GMC Sierra DRL's were white lights. A lot of people ride around with their parking lights on.. it drives me nuts because I know it is illegal and people never get stopped for it. I feel if a cop is willing to write a tint ticket they should be just as willing to write a ticket for people driving with parking lights on.

Not on my '97 Chevy truck, or any other make/model I've driven. The only thing that shuts off my DRL is the e-brake, and I normally drive with it pressed just enough to kill DRL.
The Mrs's 2007 G6 when you turn the main headlamp switch ( that is on the end of the MFS ) to the park position, the DRLs go off.
These are headlamp based DRLs, the fog lamps are only fog lamps.
The 2006 H2 was the same way, the lower fog lamp looking lenses had 3156 ( 3157 ) bulbs in them, and when the parking lamps were on, they were off. There was a mod to add a diode so they would be on with the parking lamps, posted on the hummer forums.
