Electrical, transmission problem
Electrical, transmission problem
Hello all, I am in need of some assistance. I have a 1995 F150 5.8l automatic. I went to drive it today and the transmission shifted (REAL) hard, noticed the overdrive light was blinking, also noticed the speedometer, and the odometer were not working as well.
Started checking fuses and found my dome light and hood light out as well. All my fuses check out (pulled each) I am sure this is all connected but for the life of me I cannot find it on the prints in the Haynes manual. Has anyone ever ran into this before ?
Everything listed above was working yesterday when I parked it in the garage.
I tried to search this forum but no matter how I put in the information It just returned sever hundred post on each subject. and nothing I have read in the past hour has been of any help.
Thanks for you time,
Greg

Well good news, after looking at everything from the vss sensor back I decided to break it down one system at a time. Started with the dome lights, pulled the lower dash cover from under the steering wheel and started re-checking fuses one at a time, I had all kinds of new ones so decided to replace everyone of them (as some of them showed signs of being hot at one time or another)
I found the 15amp fuse for the dome lights (located above the opening provided from the factory) blown. Replaced and TA DA speedometer and odometer along with the dome light and underhood light all working, A short test drive resulted in the transmission back to normal. Would have never guessed a dome light fuse would kill the VSS signal to the speedo but it sure does. Back to my detailing of said truck for winter time, Buff and wax
