The other thread is also a hijack and it's in the 97-03 forum.

Towed it down to my mechanic and yesterday he tried reading any codes that might have registered but he said that the reader would not communicate with the computer (pcm?) I've been doing some research and it seems there are some varying solutions like fuel pump relays, ecm relays, bad instrument cluster and so forth. My concern is that the computer took a dump because it can't communicate. On researching the other fixes, it seems like maybe they were at least able to communicate with the computer. Is there anything that would cause the computer to not communicate with the scanner and not be the computer itself? Thanks!!
I have read a lot of fixes and recommedations when it comes to the dashes at the odometer. Plaine and simple, change your ECU.

Nonsense! Go read post #7. Actual PCM failures that cause this specific symptom are few and far between.

Okay, if you have wasted a bunch of your time reading post by members who say this is your fix for the ------------ odometer is the PCM relay, and it did not fix it as MR. nonsense has stated from post # 7 then you just might want to try reading this .

Symptom : Engine will not start. Odometer shows ----------- with the Anti - Theft PATS flashing rapidly. Most commonly this issue occurs on hot or warmer days.

Pull both the fuel pump relay, and the PCM relay. They should be a little warmer than usual. Let the relays cool down. Reinstall after the relays have cooled down. If your engine starts with the original PCM relay and fuel pump relay reinstalled, the odds are it is not a bad relay. Mr. senior member projectSHO89 nothing gets fixed with nonsense!

Let's review shall we...............

You took the time to do some research. You read the threads. You are still having the same problem after replacing the PCM relay and or fuel pump relay, and it did not fix the problem. I am only posting this due to making the mistake of reading post, and wasting my time on "nonsense". I am sure that my problem does not pertain to all who have experienced the ----------------- odometer issue. If something as simple replacing the PCM relay works for you, then that is great.

I am posting this thread in hopes of helping Ford F150 owners. I have been troubleshooting this issue for over three years. Every summer the same thing would happen. Parts that I wasted money on from reading these threads.
  1. PCM Relay NO FIX
  2. Fuel pump relay NO FIX
  3. Fuel Pump NO FIX
  4. Camshaft position sensor NO FIX
  5. Engine temp sensor NO FIX
  6. ECU 2002 Ford F150 V6 FIXED

While it *can* be a faulty PCM (which was clearly stated), out of hundreds of threads with this symptom that I've advised on for almost twenty years across multiple Ford forums, yours is the only one that stated the PCM was the cause. You'll notice that the poor guy in post #17 replaced his PCM and it didn't fix his problem. I'll go with the odds and will continue to do so.

Why would you have screwed around with the fuel pump relay, the fuel pump, the cam sensor, or the ECT? NONE of those can cause this specific symptom. See what happens when you don't know how the system works and how to diagnose the symptom logically? You guessed a lot and you wasted a LOT of time and money going down dead ends.

Good luck.

I am not going to get into a pissing contest with you. You obviously do not read. Read the post! These are all recommendations from other post. They do not work.
