check engine light problem

check engine light problem

i just bought a 98 f150 i brought it home and relized that when i turned the key forward the check engine light does not come on?? what does this mean does this mean i am screwed or can the codes still be read i live in nc and have to get vehicle inspected every year and need to know anything that anybody might know about this truck runs grate so far doesnt seem like any problems engine has been rebuild any sugestions would be great thx?

Start by changing the bulb.

Might be a case of a DTC is set, and rather than fit it, they pulled the bulb or put a bad bulb in its place.

might want to do this or have a code scanner handy prior to taking it in, there could be something wrong.

I took the cluster out and its just a blown bulb ill have check engine codes read tomorrow thx for your help

After you replaced the bulb, did it illuminate ?

If not, you do not have any DTCs set, in other words nothing wrong.

yes after i replaced the bulb i had two codes p0708 and p0401
