Question 97 f150 HEADLIGHT HELP PLEASE!

My left headlight low beam doesnt work but the high beam and the parking light works.. A friend of mine spiced a set of fog lights into the left headlight and since then neither the low beam or the fog lights have worked.. i checked the fuses and replaced the bulb and it still doesnt work.. Does anyone have a wire diagram for the headlights? Or no what the problem could be?

#2 - Check the bulb connector with a meter for power, sounds like if the guy is dumb enough to add load to the headlamp circuit, he could have damaged the wires.

BTW : You do not make note of what fuses you checked or how you checked them.

there are 3 fuses for the headlamps, 2 are the low beams ( 1 for R 1 for L ) and 1 for the high beams.

Check the fuses while installed, with the main headlamp switch on, and the MFS pulled back for the low beams and pushed forward for the high beams.

Use a known good ground to check for power on both sides with the pin on the back of the fuse

Sounds like a grounding problem.

Take those foglights OFF the low beam wire. No offense, but your friend is kind of retarded for doing that. Ford's wiring is not thick enough to handle that kind of load.

that diagram u showed.. is exactly how he hooked them up.. the fuses i check was the ones you mentioned but i didnt check them while they was installed i pulled them to see if they were blown.. I did find a blown fuse in the power disturbition box under the hood it was a 20 amp and i replaced that.. But it still doesnt work..

Can you start providing some fuse numbers that you are staring at and which one was blown ?

If you do not have power for the low beam, but the high beam ( checked against the ground ) is OK, next is to check the fuse with a meter.

Main headlamp switch on, MFS pulled back for low beams, check the left low beam fuse on both sides.

If you tested it correctly and there is power on 1 side and not the other, the fuse is blown.

Unhook the fog lamps, return the factory wiring back to the way it was, replace fuse #28 and test again.

thanks sscully... i did what u said and the headlight works again.. I will just have to put a manually switch in for the fog lights... Thanks for all ur help..

But i do have another question for you..numer 20 on the passenger compartment i have a fuse that is a 25 amp and it has a metal peace sticking in with it.. it no longer works i had it hooked up for a 3 port cigarette lighter port.. the fuse has no juice going to it when the vehicle is on or off with the key turned back.. But when i take the metal piece out for the ground the fuse dont stay in the whole.. any ideas?

Fuse #20 in the passenger compartment fuse panel, is for the Manual transmission, it goes to the PCM. It should be a 5A fuse, not 25.

The metal in with the fuse is not for the ground, that is a fuse tap, the type that stretches out the fuse holder.
This is another method to get to an additional circuit, it powers the metal pin, so you can use an inline fuse holder.

Stop using it for ground.

This fuse is fed by fuse #21 in the passenger compartment fuse panel, which if you were using this for ground, I would suspect that fuse to be blown.

hmmm i will have to take a pic of it for you.. cause somehow there is a feed going from the fuse tap to my 3 port power supply.. and its screwed into a metal plate under the dash.. i will take a pic for you tomorrow cause its dark out now.. and i believe its 20 unless i counted wrong.. but there is no power going out of that fuse regardless.. cause my 3 port supply doesnt work anymore since i have had that headlight problem.. And the fuse isnt blown.. So i dont know what to do.. thats why i was asking..
