Alternator Upgrade
Alternator Upgrade
Hey guys, i'm looking to upgrade my alternator. Right now I have HID heads, HID fogs, and a 1000 watt amp all running on my stock alternator and a Gold Top Duralast battery. I can have everything on at night with the bass turned up and no light flicker. Now I am going to add a 250 amp for my door speakers. Would this be too much for my stock alternator?
Is this a good site to order from:

I would get a reputable HO alt from mechman, dcpower, or powerbastards. My favorite has always been dcpower.
Assuming you have the 5.4

Yep, its a 5.4. These things are more pricey than I thought. I'm leaning towards the one by powerbastards. I think 220 amps is overkill for me but it is a descent price compared to other companies selling 130 amp alternators for about the same price. I haven't noticed, but how much of the alternator would I see if I have it powdercoated blue?
I havent looked under my dads hood in a while, but im going to guess not too much in terms of being visible. Also remember you have to upgrade some of the wiring too. The stock wiring is not meant for 200+ amps.
Your HIDs will draw less power once warmed up than the stock bulbs. I am running a 1000W amp for my subs and 120W to the front doors, plus i have a compressor wired with a pressure switch that draws around 250W when running and a pair of Hella driving lights. Only upgrade I have done is a HD battery and I have had zero charging problems.
