Compass issues...

I had an aftermarket backup camera installed on my 2010 fx4 about 4 months ago, when I bought it new. The compass no longer works, just 2 dashes where the direction should be indicated. Is the sensor for the compass in the rear view mirror? That is the only thing that was changed on the interior. The dealer is just giving me the run-a-round on this issue. Help please.

Have you read the owner's manual? If the truck is still under warranty, and the dealer won't repair the compass, call Ford national - the number is in your warranty booklet.

killin me

I worked the camera and a spray in liner into the deal with the dealership. They had it installed by a local customizing shop. The dealership says to talk to the shop and the shop says to talk to the dealership.

Did the compass ever work from day 1 ?

Have you tried recalibrating it ?

the compass on the 2004 - 2008 was in the little black box on the back of the mirror. not 100% sure on the 09-10 MY, 65% sure it is the same.

It did work for the 3 or 4 days before the work was done. There is not much info in the owners manual and the rear view mirror was replaced for one with the screen in it for the camera. This has been highly annoying.

IF the dealer paid for the camera install then go after the dealer to get it fixed. Ulitmately it sounds like the install shop pooched something but the dealer paid for it so the dealer should work to make it right. Best of luck with it.

If YOU paid the dealership, then YOU only have to deal with them. If THEY chose to sublet the work, that's between THEM and their subcontractor.
