Gauge Cluster

i have a 01 4.2L gauge cluster and it does not have the RPM's. I put a new motor in my truck and i want to see the RPM's to save gas and such. i herd that if i get a cluster out of an f150 that has the RPM and hook it up to my truck the pats will go off and i have to take it to a dealer and such been there done that enough with the theft system. is this true if so im just going to find a small tach and mount it in the truck where i can only see it.

This is correct. The PATS RFID key codes are stored in the HEC in the cluster.

If you remove your cluster and install another one, the RFID codes are now for the cluster you installed. You will need to have the HEC erased and the 1st 2 keys programmed with a WDS ( NGS replacement ) or other PATS programmer.

There are several threads on this topic on the site, I think this info is covered in the How to Section, thread on PATS.
