2001 XLT power window switch

I need to change my driver's side automatic power window switch on my 2001 Ford F-150 XLT. This will be my fourth switch in ten years. The original and its replacement failed in the first twelve months of ownership of my brand new F-150.

The third power window switch is starting to fail right now. The window will refuse to go down or will go down partially. Now the switch will not work right off the bat. I have to put the switch in the up position then put it in the down position for it to work. Now the switch fails to activate until well into my drive.

Does any body know a place where I can purchase an authentic brand new automatic power window switch for F-150 rather than the Ford Dealer? Back when the truck was brand new, I let Ford do it because it was under warranty. Now I have to do it (I refuse to pay Ford hundreds of dollars for this repair/replacement job).

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

TonyM.

You can check the part costs online at the web sites, all use the trademotion site for parts and pricing.

The MY range should be 01-03 for the Super Crew, std and SCab cab types.

there are multiple postings on this site on how to remove the switch and clean it

remove the switch and take it apart - clean the contacts with a pencil eraser and re-assemble, it will work fine.

the windows draw a high current and ford used small switch contacts - they get "burnt" contacts and act like a resistor and do not pass anough current to allow operation of the window. i have not been able to find an after market with larger contacts to handle the current better - it will continue to happen even with a new switch.

made in america - designed to fail

(this was a joke, no need to get a linch mob going)

we live in a disposable world. gotta learn how to fix it or replace it

A good place to start looking is the index at the top of the Articles and How To forum. It's in there.
