2005 FX4 randomly shuts off
2005 FX4 randomly shuts off
Driving down the road if I take my foot off the gas it will occasionally just shut off and both the "battery" and "check engine" lights come on, along with the "electronic throttle control" light.
The first time the last of the three lights came on was while towing another truck, I went to take off from a light and I had absolutely no acceleration whatsoever. I turned the truck off, turned it back on and everything was fine again, the light on the dash went off and it acted like nothing had happened. This happened 2 more times in the next 2 months, neither of those involved towing anything though. Just today my truck shut off 3x while driving, all three when I took my foot off the gas pedal.
I would usually assume that it's an alternator problem, but the throttle problem is odd. Has anyone experienced this or know what exactly needs to be replaced? It's like 15 degrees here right now, not when I want to be fixing ****.

The trottle body needs to be removed and the butterfly hinges need to be cleaned real well with a good cleaner and a toothbrush. Mine died in downtown traffic, went into the limp mode. It would start but not accelerate. I let it set for about 5 minutes to reset, then drove it about 125 miles home. The code was telling me that the Trottle Control Motor was being turned off, so I looked it up and read where it was most often caused by a dirty TB. I was needing an oil change, so I let the dealer clean it. That was about 6,000 miles back and has not reocurred.

It would make sense as it is getting worse, not better, which hopefully just implies it needs to be cleaned. I don't think the alternator would last 2 months if that were the issue. Cold has a way of bringing the problems out, that's for sure :/. Help is much appreciated, thank you so much!
Finished cleaning the Throttle Body, replaced the air filter (really freakin dirty), cleaned the MAF, but couldn't figure out where the IAC is...hmmm. Oh well, put everything back together and drove around for 15 miles without a single problem. I'm curious as to whether the cleaning had an impact or if it will just slowly mess up again after the computer realizes what's going on...crossing my fingers.
No IAC in a 04-08 MY, the throttle plate is opened by the throttle control motor.
The IAT is built into the same module as the MAFS.

I'm curious as to the position of the throttle plate btw. I noticed that when at rest there is an opening at the top and bottom, the angle doesn't completely close off flow -- this is how it's supposed to be right?
