This isn't the first thread about a home made light bar and it won't be the last since we have quite a few do-it-yourself members here. This one is the simplest weld project I've done... a whole 5 minutes of welding. I bent a piece of 1" wide, 1/8" thick flatbar and welded it to 1/4" thick 2" x 2" angle iron, drilled some holes to mount and that's it. The material is 6061 T6 aircraft aluminum. I powdercoated it black so it doesn't look obvious behind the grille. I mounted four 6" hella blackmagics. They have a tinted lense. They aren't wired in yet so I don't know how they perform. I haven't decided where to mount the switch and I'm an idiot when it comes to electrical.

Looks good work. Someday, I'm gong to have to learn how to weld. I've tried it once, and the weld material sort of "balled" up like cold solder and didn't really fuse properly. And, things were so hot that the stock I was welding was being cut, so I don't really know what I was doing wrong!

I wish I could weld too, looks like an easy project to start learning on. First time I saw this I couldn't believe how good it looked. Is it secured enough so that it won't shake too badly on rough terrain? Make sure you post some pictures of it all lit up.

It doesn't move at all. The flat bar I bent and welded to the center of the angle iron keeps it from moving. It was a very simple but effective modification.

 

mine is very similar, but for only two lights. Yours looks badass with all the lights on there!

I didnt run a switch for mine, i simply ran a relay for them from the batt, and have them come on when i switch to high beams. VERY easy wiring to do and i can do a simple wire diagram if you like.
