F150, yr 2000, starter problem

Not sure this is the place to post this, but I need to start somewhere.

I have a 2000 F150 with a Ford System 6 alarm system.

A few months back after driving my truck I got out and went to the store. I had activated the alarm system, of which one of the features is to inhibit the starter motor 2 minutes after I turn on the alarm.

When I came back to the truck, the engine would not turn over. Everything looked good, the only problem was the engine would not turn over with the ignition switch. No clicking at the engine, nothing. After about 20 minutes, I tried to start the engine again and it suddenly started up. I thought it was just a one time fluke.

The problem happen again when I went on a trip and I called a tow truck guy. He was able to start the truck by crawling under the truck and shorting the starter motor. After doing that a few times on my trip I went to a ford dealership and he showed me how to jump start the engine from within the engine area.

I de-activated the starter inhibitor option on my alarm system , and there was no problem with starting the engine, for awhile.

Then the problem came back. If I attempt to start the engine in the morning via the ignition switch, it always works. The engine will kick over fine maybe half way through the day, and then the only way to start it, for the rest of the day, is to jump the starter from within the engine area. Next morning, the engine will start up just fine via the ignition switch.

Sorry for being so long winded on this. Anyone have any idea of what might be the problem?

Thanks for any and all help.

Russ....

Maybe something is getting hot. Where is the security equiptment located?

Next time it faile see if the wires or equiptment is hot or even damp.
