Question RAP modules

Want to revive this question. Would really like to install a door keypad but not sure if I meet the requirements. (Great how-to over at Ford150.net) Bought truck used in September. Looking for the RAP module which is supposedly under the dash.
Is it insatlled in every truck regardless of the options? If I have one, what does it look like and where is it located? If I can get one from the junkyard, can I just plug it in and then install the keypad?
Thanks in advance for any help, Dennis.

bringing this back to the top,

i'm looking tomorrow at a junkyard for a rap module, as my 99 does not have one. I'll keep the thread updated.

Was poking around the junkyard the other day and found quite a few Towncars with the RAP modules. Do not know if they can be used on an F150 or not. Any Ford techs, or others in the know, out there that can answer this? I'm not even sure if I have the wiring harness. Perhaps later today I will remove the panel under my steering column and get a good look in that area.

Run a search for "door pad" in the lightning forum... all this info is already there.

fourhour

main thing is getting the rap module, there is a good couple threads in the lightning forum to install it, and a link to an expedition site where they install one.

I called the stealer, and they want about 350cdn for the keyless entry key fob system. All i want is the rap module, so when it's once again warm enough to pick one form the boneyard, i'm going to go that route.

let us know how you fair.

Thanks guys, I'm well aware of the how-to links here. My problem is the elusive wiring harness. It's been wet and raw here today so I will have to wait to get at the dashboard another day. Bambino, good luck at the boneyard. I've been told that you can't find a late model F150 or Expy there due to the ablity to rebuild and sell wrecks. Just down the street from me are two very reliable junkyards (or salvage facilities) and I've browsed through both with no luck. That is the reason I'm questioning the possiblity of using a RAP from a Lincoln Towncar.

Had my dash opened up the other day. Did'nt see anything that could have been a RAP or a harness for that matter. Bought my truck used and it pisses me off to no end that it did'nt come with the remote entry. It's a Lariat for cring out loud!

I believe all the lariats since 97 came standard with the keyless entry. I do know that power door locks were standard. From my understanding, without the RAP module, you can't have power locks or remote entry. All the info I have is based on the 99 and newer trucks. I would see if someone has their spec book or a sales flyer for the 98s to see if the keyless entry was standard on the lariat that year. If so, it's a matter of getting a couple of remotes, and taking it to the dealer to have them programmed in. Any Ford dealer should be able to give you all that info. If nothing else, they can steer you in the right direction to get the original info about your truck.

To my knowledge, the key-pad on the door was not even offered in our trucks until 99, but I could be wrong. Because of that, there may not be a wiring harness available to use in the door, and the RAP module already in the truck may be entirely different. I DO know that the keyless entry was available in all but the XL from 97 on. Keep us posted on what you find.

When I bought my 1997 Lariot it did not have transmitter with it. I went to the dealer and they told me they thought all had keyless entry. I bought a transmitter and they programed it and it worked. Back then I had never heard of RAP. Since then I have added the keypad. If you are looking in the dash for the RAP you are in the wrong place. It is on the firewall just above and to the left of the brake pedal. Got to stand on you head to see it. I had to pull mine out to see the code numbers. Good luck

Wish I could say "aha" but I decided first to have a look under the hood on the firewall. No freakin luck!

A friend has an Explorer and his is behind the glove box. Is this a possiblity? Also, upon inspection of the interior firewall/brake pedal area, there is'nt even a noticable unconnected wiring harness.

Do any of you F150 enthusiasts out there have a repair manual for a 98' that you might be able to post or email me pages with wiring schematics and/or pictures of this damn thing? If so, please mention this topic on the subject line.

Went to the Lightning board through the Search and got some great info. First chance I get I'm going to check out my door panel to see if the plug thingy is there. Had keypad entry on two prevoius Taurus' and they both had a strategically placed sticker within the vehicle (other than the RAP) with the 5 digit code on it. The wagon had it on the lifgate and the sedan had it on the trunk hinge. Do the trucks include this too?

Damn! Could'nt find it in the door either!
This just burns my butt. I am not afraid to tackle mods like these. I put factory (all parts purchased from junk yard) power door locks, windows and Air Conditioning in my 1979 El Camino. Thought this would be simple! Can someone point me in the direction of the threads that did this mod from scratch. Thanks, Dennis

Calm down there, slugger.... IF you are sitting in the driver's seat, the RAP is about 14 inches above your left foot, on the firewall, INSIDE the cab, almost behind the fuse block... maybe a bit above and to the right, but in that area. As I recall, it's about 2 inches thick, by 4 inches wide, by 7 inches long.
