Hi Red

Not sure if i understand you question?

Do you want to install an OEM gauge panel with the tach, because yours dosent have a tachometer?

If so, im trying to do the same & can tell you what ive found out.

Hi Red

Ck. posts under "Engine" 3-31-01 Pg.10

Look around that time frame for maybe more info.

Didnt mention what yr.truck you got. So this may not apply?? You may already know this stuff?

This for my 99SC XL 4.6L. EDIS/coil packs.
The only place i found for a OEM gauge panel with tach (speedo, oil, water temp.etc) was at my local Ford parts.

The cost was around 400.00 You simply take out the old panel & install new panel using existing wires.

Now, this is where its complicated. Dealer didnt have a complete wiring diag. for my truck. So no way of knowing if the wire from "PCM" is there that goes to the factory tach. Have to pull the panel out and look for the tach. wire. Haynes manual i have has partial wiring diag. shows tach wire from PCM & color.but???

My parts guy couldnt get any info. from his supplier with regards to: 99XL didnt come with tach only XLT, so how do we hook up tach. if wiring not there? Reply: Dont know!

So theres the rub. Someone gotta pull gauge panel out, ck. for tach. wire, if not there, then gotta go into the "PCM" for rpm pickup.
I can pull panel, but??

So i said man, this is a bummer, thats before i found "Test mode" in my diagital odometer. I can use it for tach. rpms, & other test. Works great, just small numbers & eyes blink alot.

All i wanted to do was install aftermarket tach. awhole lot cheaper, etc. but because of ign. change in 99, autometer did not have a tach. that would work on this new ign. At least thats what they told me at the time?

Isspro.com has a tach.(add on) that will work on this ign. system for around 200.00. Requires an inductive pickup sender that you have to mount to face of crankpulley cover. So thats a cheaper alternative.
There # 1-800-888-8065

So anynow, i kinda backed off temporarily, since this "test mode" is helping out, Autometer said check back, but last call still nothing, they dont have technology as yet. Funny, ISSPRO does. I just wanted a 40.00 addon, not 400.00 HA

Thats it, good luck OT

HI OT

I think the reason Isspro has a tach solution and Autometer doesn't is that Isspro specializes in instrumentation for heavy industrial equipment and autometer in performance automotive. The tach you are looking at was developed for diesel applications.

I'm surprised you couldn't find an old panel at a wrecker to try for under a hundred bucks.

I'm not saying all Ford trucks do but my dad's 94 F150 XL did have a tach wire already ran to inside of cab in the factory wire harness, it was just a matter of tracking it down. I would assume Ford would use just about the same wiring harness on every truck to keep costs down. But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Hi Should have said i got tip from IanN. on Isspro. Thanks again. Sorry about that.
I was aware of diesel, just didnt post it.

Apparently not worthwhile for autometer to persue. I'm guessing most buyers are getting the OEM tach. with there new trucks.

Where im at, no late models at wreckers.
Still lookin.

Ill just use the "odo. test mode" for tach. read out, its giving me what i need to know right now.

Good luck & tks. OT
