Unhappy Problems with fog light mod...

I made the mod to the pull out switch so that the fogs can be turned on by themselves and/or with the high beams. Everything went perfectly. I connected the #2 wire (blk/wht) with the #12 wire (brown). Everything was fine for about two days. Then I started blowing 5 amp fuses for the fog lights. After a couple of fuse changes my headlights started turning on when I turned the **** to the "Park" position. The fogs came on whenever I pulled out on the ****, no problems there. I can't seem to get the headlights to stop turning on in the "park" position. Can anyone help me? I am completely illiterate when it comes to anything electrical. I have a 2001, SuperCrew, 5.4L, 4x4, fog lights (obviously), auto trans, towing package. Thanks in advance for any help. This is a great forum with excellent members.

You might think about getting a new switch and returning things back to normal. Then, if the fuse blowing has been cured, do an install of fog lights on a separate system with their own relay. This would be the easiest way for you. I know it's not the clean setup like you want, but it'll work good.
Your lack of understanding about these things shouldn't keep you from doing mods; you just need to make sure you have a good plan to work from before you start. Sometimes the simplest of circuits can be very frustrating to work with and troubleshoot. Keep at it.

I also had a problem with the fuse blowing for my for my fog lights. I had used connectors that slice into an existing wire.

I pulled the switch back out. I checked the connection on the connectors and discovered that I did not have a good connection on one of the connectors. I opened the plastic flap that holds the metal wedge in place. The metal wedge was sticking up a little bit above the plastic body portion of the connector. I used a pair of plyers to push the metal wedge down so that the top of it is flush with the plastic. I don't think it had cut through the plastic cover of the wire enough for a good connection until I did this. I put everthing back together and it has not blown a fuse since.

I only did the electrical portion of the mod, so I can't help you with the rest.

My fog lights work with the brights, but they don't work with the parking lights.

I hope this helps.

Take the switch back out and check for your splices shorting each other out. After I first did mine, I pulled the switch to do it another way and I couldn't even recognize my work. It was a mess!
