I have had one on a 90, 95, 97. They are pretty easy to install but it gets a little trickey with a Paskey type security system. The instructions guide you through this and they send a wiring diagram. You should not need the factory remote.

blt694: where did you learn about the factory installed remote starter? and what was the cost they quoted you? the aftermarket ones go from about $50 to several hundred, depending on if you or a shop does the install. i'd like to put one in my truck (2001) if it comes factory because my wife doesn't like the aftermarket stuff. email me: abo@email.byu.edu

Guys, I got a remote start + alarm from ebay for $79! It was the best deal I've ever gotten from there. I had to get the passkey, but the place where I got it installed got one for me. It was $150 total for me to get it installed because they forgot to charge me for the passkey. It isn't that hard for them, I think it would be hard to install yourself though.

Ford's is an "aftermarket" type item but it is designed to install VERY easily in your F-L-M vehicle. It is not a factory option, but it is a Ford product available at any dealer.

That right it is not a factory option but rather a ford dealer option. They also said it could not be installed on my 2000 f-250 crewcab.I didn't want a after market product that would effect my warranty and also work with my factory aralm.I have a bulldog unlock-starter on my work van ,Cost $ 50.00 installed it my self but what a pain,it works great with good tech support. I had the dealer install one before I picked up the new truck a year and a half ago. It was not working right (no motion detector but it still went off by itself once in awhile). They replaced it under warranty.

The old one and the new replacementd were made by CodeAlarm. The first one had almost no range because it used the factory remote. When they went to install the replacement unit, I told them that the range stunk and they told me that I'd get a newer model that used a separate fob and now I get about 400 feet of range. Through walls and everything.

BUT here is some important info some of you might like to know: When they installed both systems, the starter ran on about a half second or more each time and I was leery of using it a lot due to the sort of grinding sound. This is programmable somewhat on the starter computer, however I could not eliminate it. What happened is that the installer hooked up the sense wire to a fuel injector. The wire is supposed to sense a voltage that did not seem to me to be able to be outputted by the fuel injector wiring. So I called CodeAlarm and they told me that the sense wire SHOULD have been attached to one of the COIL PACK wires!

So I changed it and now the starter cuts off about when it should. I suspected this might be the problem because I previously had installed a 69 dollar aftermarket one on my wife's Crown Vic (took me 6 or 7 hours!!) and the sense wire was supposed to go to the coil tach connection. Just in case any of you have a run-on problem, better check where they connected the sense line.
