Radio Problems with reception
When I drive my truck around and I am listening to an AM Sports talk show and hit a bump my reception gets more static, hit another and it goes away. I can push/bump on the dash and get the same issue, funny the tech couldn't. Any ideas?
I haven't had that problem, however I have a fare amount of experience with mobile radios and I may be able to help. The first place I wood look would be the antenna connection in the rear of the radio to make sure it is good. Rotate it with the radio on and see if you can duplicate the noise. If so you got it, if not run a new ground from the radio metal case to a good CLEAN ground under the dash.
If the problem still exists. There are two variable caps that are used to tune the antenna on the right side of the radio. I don't know which ones are which ( AM or FM), however if you would place a flat tooth pick and rotate both caps a little bit back and forth and return it to the same position it often times cleans the variable cap and improves reception. They are located in the middle of the right side on the bottom and are accessed through two holes in the chassis. Mine are surrounded by blue plastic rings. Typically if you were going to tune these you would have to use a NON metallic tuning tool. If you don't have a tooth pick or a tuning tool you can use a small screw driver but the Radio MUST BE OFF.
Good luck and let me know how you made out
