Remote starting
Remote starting
I'm about ready to trade my 2005 King Rach F150 for a 2010 F150 Platinum. The dealer has been driving it for a month or so and promises me a good deal -- heard that one before.
Anyway, surprised that for almost a top of the oine truck, it does not have remote starting. I've been told that Ford has a kit the dealer can install.
Anybody have an idea of the cost and how well they work? Does it require its own seperate key fob?

Ford has 3 levels of remote start.
1. Bronze = Remote start only, this would be an additional fob with the RKE ( Remote Keyless Entry fob ). Usually this is the kit used on trucks with manual locks.
2. Silver = Remote Start & RKE. This is a remote start, as well as the receiver for the Remote Keyless Entry. This can be used in addition to the RKE fobs from the factory if equiped. This also means the directions for adding new RMST / RKE fobs is done via the remote start owners manual, and the number on the RMST system is not included in the total of the RKE fobs.
2. Gold = Remote Start & RKE & Alarm. This is the silver plus the alarm is added to the system. Not relay sure what the options are, but I have seen shock sensor adjustment questions.
I have a Silver on my 2006 and I like it a lot. Always works, extended range over the factory RKE fob, and nice features ( same as the Code Alarm CA-530 I think is the same system ).
Cost, depends on what your dealer does. Some do list price of the item for the item + install, others are different. You will need to ask the dealer once you figure out which one you want.
