a word of warning on halogen bulbs
hey i bought some hyper super white bulbs for my 2000 f-150 and i had a horrible experience
i had em in for a month, then one of my headlights went out, i wiggled the wire and it went on so i didnt think anything of it then in kept doing it. i brought it to ford and they said the bulbs i had in it were getting to hot and it melted the wire harness.the bulbs were 130/100 w
so they replaced the harness but didnt charge me eventhough it was my fault
(the harness was $600 plus labor.
so a word of warning dont buy the halogen bulbs unless they say dot approved.
the piaas were more money but there safer with the same brightness at 65/55w

Man I am really sorry to hear about your truck. I know that past 80/100 wattage you are risking wire melting. A good way to prevent any melting even with 55/60's. Use electrical grease on the prongs. It keeps the moisture out of the socket which caused sockets at any wattage to heat up.
Hyper uses only 20% Xenon gas which does not cool the bulb filement inside. This causes a lot of heat on the base and has been known to melt wiring harness.. Just like your case.. (CRAP BULBS) I was told. And they are just too blue!!!
As far as wattage is concerned.. DOT approved for the PIAA's and Xenon Superwhites are only approved at 55/60. Thats DOT Standards.
Currently I am running 80/100 Watt Xenon Superwhites. They have 85+ percent Xenon Gas inside which cools the filement. In fact it doesnt even warm up the front housing which is nice!
I did put electrical grease on the sockets just to prevent moisture from getting inside when I go off roading.
Well I hope I helped you understand these bulbs. There are so many bulbs out there its hard to find good ones. I myself wasnt going to pay $60.00 for a pair of PIAA's. Even with my friends dealer discount it was still nuts!
So I went with Xenon Superwhites. I have been running with them for 2 years now and no problems. I got them in my fog lights (9006) and in my headlights (9007).
Glad to hear everything is fixed though.. Remember.. friends, dont let friends, buy hyper.
Hehehe
