Post Getting a new computer

I was driving home friday, got off the highway all of a sudden the truck stalled. I pulled over started the truck back up drove about 20 seconds stalled again. All the lights, and gauges went off. Started it up again same thing 20 seconds, and stall. Limped it to the dealer, lucky only a mile away and mostly down hill.
They pulled it in yesterday afternoon, called me today. The truck needs a new computer.

Any one ever have a simmilar problem?

I can't see any connection between lights-gauges-& pcm. If the pcm dies (never seen it happen on a Ford) , the engine would die but lights & everything else should still work.

Maybee I didn't expalin it properly, the gauges all shut down, and all the idiot light went on. The headlights still work ok. Bye the way the chip has been out since the price of fuel went way up.
It took me 15 minutes to go about 3/4 of a mile. Stalled about 10 times during that 3/4 mile trip.

Hi Don C.,

Sorry to hear you had this problem. It does happen from time to time that a computer will just fail, and it's usually a cold solder joint on the PCB (printed circuit board) itself, rather than a failed component, but components can fail too on occasion. It's like anything else that is mass-produced, there will be the occasional failure. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen from time to time.

Glad to hear you were very close to the dealer when this happened, at least that part of this episode was convenient.

One thing to remember is that when they replace your computer, make sure you check on the computer itself to see what it's new computer code is. It will most likely change, and if it does, your Superchip will not longer work, the vehicle will not start when you re-install it. So make sure to check that code, and let us know if it changed, as we will need to reprogram your Superchip to the new code.

Good luck!

Thanks RedLariet, and Mike
Just got it back today. I have a feeling this computer was junk from day one. It has been giving me a check engine light since day one. The dealer could never find any codes. They would reset it, the it would come back on again. It has happened seven times in 36,000 miles, and never a code.
Friday I got off the highway, came to a light, and all of a sudden it just died. I was about 350 miles past the warantee, but they got it covered for free. I have been driving it most of the day and feels better than ever.
The dealer kept telling me it was due to the K&N FIPK, so I took it off this fall, and the light has come back twice, and now this. Now that I think about it the past 6 months it has been coming on more frequently.
Mike I ordered me one of them new 2001 Lightnings, so this spring I am sure I will be in the market for a new chip. Becides the chip I MIGHT just leave it alone. I figure 380-400 HP might just be enough. I am not into drag racing(love nascar) so I don't plan on doing much(if any drag racing. If I do will just run it stock.
Happy Hollidays
Don
