Post Windshield Washer OTS

My windshield washer used to work occasionally but now does not pump at all. Is this an easy, cheap fix to replace the pump ( I guess) or should I take it to the shop and pay the $50 deductible?

Mine does the same thing? push the washer switch and sometimes pumps sometimes doesn't?
I'm pretty sure mine is the switch, if I fiddle with it and turn it just a little while pushing it will work. It is something you can change yourself but not sure of the price of switch or how to make %100 sure that is it.

Mine's like that too. If you move it around a little it works. My intermittent wipers also have a mind of their own. I'd like to figure this out but haven't figured out how to get the switch/lever off without breaking something.

All the problems you guys are describing are probably from the multi-function switch (turn signal stalk).

As for the washer problem? I'd do a bit of diagnostics. It could possibly be a faulty pump, but I doubt it. The easiest way to tell is to hot wire the pump to the battery to see if it runs or not. Chances are, it's the switch.

Actually, I am now convinced it is the multi-switch rather than the pump, in which case, I think I am better off taking it into the shop and paying the $50 deductable.

Unbelievably, I was headed to the dealer this morning to have the switch replaced. On the way I jiggled the switch, as you guys suggested, while pushing the wash button. It started working for the first time in several months. I decided to save my money and wait until it really goes out. Thanks for your help.

Sounds like you've all got the ghost wipers. There was a TSB for the 97 & 98s, and I believe there was a recall for the 99's and 00's just for that purpose. Replacement parts should be available for the DIY-er, I would think Call the service department for more info (it might take some calling around before you find a service-writer that is willing to give out that info over the phone, though)

Do you have the TSB for the washer problem? I am taking mine in for the same problem this week. My washers only work if I turn the wipers on low or high and then push the end in.

Thanks,
Steve

I took mine in last week because the washers would not work unless I turned the wipers on (and that did not even work all of the time). The ended up replcaing the multi-function switch (stalk) that controls the wipers and turn signals and now it works fine.
