Cool Added 12 volt outlet to bed

We have a 12 volt Coleman cooler, I also have a 12 volt air compressor. I got the outlet at Walmat for around $7.00.

I also had a hard time trying to find the topper light so I added a switch in a more accessible location.

The only problem is the tight space to work I had to get my 11 y/o daughter to help thread on the nut.

Later I'm going to add more lights to the bed under the rails.

Might I suggest that anybody installing a power point make sure that the wiring is of sufficient size and that it have a properly sized fuse too? I've seen some trucks and boats have problems with electrical fires because somebody used undersized wiring and failed to protect the wiring with a properly sized fuse.

I'd also suggest installing a power point outlet facing sideways or down. Less chance of something falling into the outlet and causing a short. Chances are slim, but still... Why take a chance?

Question

Firezap

How about posting info on how you wired this outlet. Where did you get power, etc ???

Another suggestion if it's gonna be exposed to the elements: Make sure it's mounted faging down or better yet horizontal for water drainage, and use a marine lighter... The one on my boat is made entirely of stainless steel, so it'll never rust out. The one that was in there originally rusted out within a year. :-( Great idea, though!
