Erratic power window operation
The power windows in my 1999 F-150 are erratic. If the dome light does not come on when you open the door, the windows will not operate. Is there an easy at-home fix or do I have to send it off to the dealer for 2-3 days.
I had a problem with my 97 that caused the windows to quit and the light came on when I had the heater on. After tearing the whole dash out and checking all connectors and wiring I found a loose ground on the passenger side behind the kick panel.
I would check that out first there is also a ground connection on the Driver side kick panel. If this dont fix it let me know I have a lot of diagrams for the electrical connecters and wiring.

I believe your problem is a faulty Delayed Power Relay.
Here are the symptoms:
When you get in the truck in the morning, there is no power to the interior lights and the power windows will not work. Everything else is normal.
After a short time, you hear a click under the lower left dash, and the lights and windows work.
The Delayed Power Relay was stuck. This relay allows the power windows to work after the ignition is turned off. When the door is opened, and the interior lights come on, power to the windows is cut. If this relay gets stuck, the lights and windows get fouled up.
The relay is located in the lower left socket in the fuse block. It is a $6 part.

Thanks gg98, sounds like just the fix I'm looking for. I made a copy of your reply to give to my dealer since the truck is still under warranty. This should put him on the right track.

I had the same problem.
There is a service bulletin on it, but my
wife has hidden the receipt where the
info is written down. Post if you need
it and I will try to find it.

I've had the same problems. I have a 98 F150 v6 xlt. In the morning the windows would not work (this happened 2 times) and 1 time my dome light failed to come on. after a couple of minutes, I heard a click of some sort, and the windows started working. I went to 2 dealerships with the same responce from both, "bring it in for diagnostics." Any one else with a solution to the problem?
