Third brake light modulator

Where can I get a brake light modulator that will cause the third brake light to flash 3 or 4 times and then come on steady after I hit the brake pedal, or is this something that I can mod myself? Thanks!

You would be looking for a brake lamp modulator for a motorcycle.

The ones I can recall are Kisan and Back off

Sure there are other mfgrs of them out there.

This should be small enough to mount in the headliner behind the CHMSL lens.

OP - how handy are you?

You can easily build one: http://www.sentex.net/~mec1995/circ/motflash.html

And, unless I'm mistaken, you can get LED lights that are already set up to do this. You want RED ones, since they will be behind the red lens. (A white light will not be as bright.) Here's one source: http://autolumination.com/1156_1157.htm Look for "THE BRAKER FLASHING BRAKE LIGHT BULB", a little less than half way down the page, above "THE BRAKER FLASHING LIGHT MODULE". I have not used these, so I'm not endorsing them, but I have bought other bulbs from this source and I think they sell a good product.

Wow - nice find Sir Jack!

Even I can't build it for only $5.99 (plus tax, lol)

Thanks!

Of course when you get them "pre-built", you miss out on the DIY fun!

Using the module would give you some flexibility in choice of LED lamps. You really want to use the SMD/SMT design and not the "capsule" design like I think the self-contained ones are. The Surface Mount kind is brighter and I think much more reliable.

Again though, don't fall into the trap of thinking "white is brighter", because it isn't. The red lens is filtering out all the light wavelengths except red, so they end up being dimmer.
