Gauge clusters
I am thinking about buying a gauge cluster with a tach for my truck, (I have just the basic set), can anyone tell me if the 1997 f150 is prewired for a tach? Or was it a different cable with a different wiring harness? Thanks in advance.

I've been considering this for some time, now. I seem to remember an old post that said it would be a direct swap for about $200 (dealer part incl. labor). I've called several dealers to ask about the swap, but haven't been given a direct answer yet.

If your locale Ford dealership hasn't gotten back to you yet then i would try to borrow a factory EWD (ELECTRICAL WIRING DIAGRAM) book.
You would go to the combination meter page & see if it is prewrired.
If i can get the time on Monday i will check it out for you. Our dealer owns the Lincoln-Mercury dealership. They seem to be a step up on the Ford tech's. It always helps when you know the people behind the desk!
