Question Fog Lights/Without Headlights

Awhile back there was a couple of threads about using your Fog Lights without having to use your Headlights. I tried the search feature, but, was not successful. What would I look under, or can someone please repost that information.

Thanks for your help as usual. I always get great info here.

Its not that bad, its makes it easier, if you have a wiring diagram, and know a little about relays. The way it comes from the factory, the signal for the foglight relay comes from the low beam circuit. You need to change this so that it gets its signal from the parking light circuit. The foglights are switched on the ground side of the signal circuit on the relay. You will need another switch, because the factory switch can only be pulled out once the headlights are on. The added bennefit to doing this is that your foglights also stay on with the high beams. The relay for the fog lightsare in a little box next to the power distribution box under the hood. If you need more info, just holler, I just did this off of the top of my head, I did my truck like this several months ago(actually just days after I got it). I can go look at mine, and give you better info if you need.

The wiring is not hard, check Haynes manual page 12-26. The other switch is not needed if you have a Dremmel tool and a little patience. When you remove the light switch take it to a bench and pull the guts out. You will see there is a ramp cut into the side of the housing so that when the switch is rotated to the parking light position it will pull the switch back to the fog lights off position. Using your Dremmel cut the ramp back (guesstimate) to where the ramp will allow the switch into the parking light position with it still pulled out to the fog lights on position. I left the ramp there so that when I turn the lights off it will pull the switch in and also kill the fog lights.

FYI: For you California drivers, running with foglamps and parking lamps is illegal and you might get stopped/cited ("Any motor vehicle may be equipped with not to exceed two foglamps which may be used with, but shall not be used in substitution of, headlamps." CVC 24403). Why invite trouble?
Other states may allow foglamps/parking lamps but apparently California is not as enlightened.

Redwing,

Hope you can find it..would appreciate it.
Cannot see any reason why Ford made it that you have to kept the headlights on with the fog lights..makes no sense to me.
