Question Fuse Keeps Blowing!

I think it's the #4 fuse in the Expedition, it keeps popping. It controls the power mirrors, entry keypad and keyless remote entry. I took the Exped. to the dealer to have the electrical looked at. They had the truck for 3 days, said they fixed the problem. While washing the truck I pulled the fuse panel off and noticed that the dealer repalced the 7.5 amp fuse with a 10 amp fuse.

I voiced my concerns to the dealer regarding the placement of a larger fuse. Told them that I didn't want to be liable for any problems that might arise due to the larger fuse. They said that they are going to talk to the tech. and inquire the reason for the 10 amp.

If the dealer says that the difference between the 7.5 and 10 is minute I will ask them to document that they installed the 10 amp.

Any suggestions?

Sorry to be so longwinded.

I would definately be concerned. I dont mean to scare you, but the fuse is blowing for a reason (like a short of some kind). If the tech put a higher amp fuse in instead of finding out what is causing it to blow, it could overheat the wiring and cause a fire. The wiring is sized for a certain amp load,(guage) too much load starts overheating the wire, burning insulation, starting fire. I would b!tch to the service manager big time! That was not a fix that was a band-aid. I would make them find out what the real problem is. Could be as simple as a bad relay. If you decide to go with the 10 amp fuse I would definately get the SERVICE MANAGER to document it AND sign it.
that way they can't weasle out of it if there is a problem later. I'm sorry for the long winded post, it just pisses me off that call that problem solving. In my experience with 3 local dealers, they dont diagnose problems anymore. If there isnt a TSB on a particular problem then they don't know how to fix it! Sorry again, I rant.
Hope you get your problem fixed!

I would make them document they put a higher amp fuse in there. Becuase when what ever gets damaged they will be responable for it if you don't get it documented there going to blame you for putting in a higher amp fuse also find another service department that can fix it instead of a temparay fix.

I was doing some re-wiring of the stock relay to the fog lamps today so they would burn low or high beams. And I noticed a fuse in the under the hood that was wrong amperage had a 30 amp where a 15 should be. So I put the right one in. We will see if I have problems now!!!!! I think it was the headlite #23 fuse..Lariat#1

The 7.5 amp fuse is sized that way to protect the wiring from damage. Since 7.5 amps at 12v is 90 watts you could get enough heat to burn something, besides why would the mirrors or keypad need more power than that? If you find the fuse blows when you switch something on you've isolated the problem--say a short in power mirror motor. I would actually use a lower rating fuse to do the testing, worst it can cost is another fuse.
