Help, dome light won't go off
There is only one hole. You don't need to remove the plastic cover and you don't need to remove any screws (removing the plastic cover just makes it a little easier). It is the little hole next to the door hinges which the slide connected to the door disappears into(it should be the only piece of black plastic visible it is about 3 inches long and 1 inch wide and there is a hole in the middle of it and you can see the slide go in and out of the hole as you open and shut the door)just spray it in the hole.

Donk,
I did what you said and the light works fine now. I will have to try it several days before I will know for sure however. I did find the black plastic cover and removed it, sprayed brake cleaner into the opening but then I had to relubricate it to get the door to close without binding. I'll let you know if the light stops working. Thanks!

I just recovered from a dome and bedlight that wouldn't go out at all. After a week at the dealer's shop. Nothing worked. The service writer said they "didn't have any idea what was keeping the light on". I applied some additional pressure and they finally found a short between the hot ahead of the map light switch and the dome light hot circuit. Kinda hard to find. Might be a similar problem for you. A marginal short could be opening and closing with heating of the wire. Just a thought.

Well I have the same problem, light stays on when I get in and out, and door ajar light stays on too. I noticed it when I left my truck and locked it with the remote keyless entry. It honked twice as if the door was open, but it wasn't. This only happens every once and a while. I am just out of warranty (36,900). If it keeps gettin worse I'll take it in.

It's really simple, I had this trouble when I bought my 1997 F-150 supercab about 7 months ago. The local dealer showed me how to fix it:
Holding the door open, spray some WD40, or other lube, into the door latch. While holding the doorhandle, use a screwdriver to work the latch back and forth a few times.
This lubricates the "door adjar" switch, allowing the light to go off.

Elmer,
I tried what you recommended but my light still stays on. I sprayed WD40 in the latch and also into the handle area. I assume you are referring to the latch as the locking mechanism that holds the door closed. I don't really see how working it with a screwdriver helps. Maybe I don't understand what you are saying. Thanks

The switch is in the door latch. From time to time it will get dirty and stick. This will happen more often if the truck spends a lot of time on a dirt road. The Brake Cleaner will work but will remove the needed lubricant. WD-40 is the best solution.
Did ya all know that some of the screws that mount the dome to the ceiling also acts as a ground and if it comes loose at all your dome light circuitry will come on "all by itself", intermittently too. Had a few at work that did that. Take the cover off and re-tighten the screws.
This worked for me.
