HID Head lights and geting shocked
So I took my Expo to Stockton CA this weekend and there roads are real rough. My drivers side hid head light would flicker in and out. So about 10 min ago I opened the hood and started screwing with the wires on it and when I unplugged one of the connectors with the head lights on BAM I got hit it actually made me jump straight up in the air It really sucked because it felt just like getting hit by a distributor when I was a kid. WTF I have never had this happen with halogens why the hell did it shock me like that?

Please be careful!

HID's utilize plasma discharge to generate light. This needs a very high voltage - thousands of volts - to acheive. The ballasts supply that.
Hence the hit. It can be lethal if propagated through yer body core - take care.
Also - disconnecting a live ballast from the load can fault the ballast / control circuitry.
