HELP? changed Clockspring prob still exist

cruise control still not working. horn still doesn't honk with engine on but honks when turned off. WTF? o2 screw with 171k on 4.6. horn and cruise haven't worked for years. unplugged switch from Master cyl when recall notice cam out. finally got around to taking in for the fix. It was a wet fix. cruise still didn't work, horn had weird issue. everything seemed to indicate clockspring. spent 65 bucks and several bucks, problem is exactly the same.

Need some guru/mastermind help here, guys. I'm bumfusselled!
Anybody heard of such foolishness?

Saw a thread somewhere to hold down cruise on while turning key to on but nothing happened.

Have you removed the plastic bezel from around the steering column and inspected the wires for damage?

Thanks for the the reply
Had that piece off when putting the clockspring on. Didn't notice anything in particular, but wasn't expecting look for something. Is there something in particular or someplace in particular that I'm looking for?

No, not really. Only that the big rubber grommet(?) around the steering column looked like it'd been splashed by muddy water. which I thought was kind of odd.

I'll try to look there tonight. Any thing in paarticular or any particular place I should be looking for?

Here' somthing else I noticed. Since I replaced the clockspring, when I start the engine, the gauges do that 0 to max back to 0 reset thing. I'd forgotten all about that. Hasn't done that for a while.

This is the base of the steering wheel column, not the shaft through the firewall. the same thing ford norseman posted when I was replying.

This is the sign of a bad battery, time to replace it.

Bingo, the truck is rationing power probably when running. Actually, it sounds like your alternator is kaput as well. Definetely look into these 2 things.

Thanks! yes, the battery is a bit week. Ran down a couple of times in the cold when the doors were left open a long time while unloading and setting up.

Ok, yea, I see where the shast goes through the fire wall and there's no wires there. gonna have to back up a bit. It's looking like most all of the wires are tape wrapped in there respestive harnesses. Am I going to have to unwrap all that mess or am I still in the wrong place?

Could this possibly be related in any way? Also have blower issue (high speed only), but just figured it was the hard-to-get-to relay or the resistor pack. Until a couple of days before I started this post. High speed quit working also. I discovered the 40 amp superfuse was blown. (Sorry, forgot the number, will have to look again. It's the one the manual says it the blower fuse). I just pulled out the resistor pack and it looks a bit corroded, but not crumbling falling apart like the pics I've seen posted....
I'm going to see about getting the relay behind the ODBC port thing
are there specs or instructions somewhere as so I can check these with a VOM?

Somebody watered Gizmo.... this whole thing is growing on me..

These are the wires leaving the end of the chrome shift tube. You need to remove the plastic cover and inspect the wires where they exit the tube.

Sorry, there don't seem to be any wires going into or coming out of the shift tube.
There's a black plastic channel on the left side of the column (sitting in the drivers seat, shift tube is at 2 o'clock and this channel is at 10 oclock) It appears that the wires/connectors for the multifunction switch go down this channel. Wires from ignition switch go up into bottom side.

Sorry I'm having such a hard time getting on the same page with you on this. I do appreciate your help.

water was low in battery. brought levels up and put battery on trickle charger for a few hours. I'll have it checked in a day or two to see if it'll pass muster. (also did GOTTS mod while battery was on charger. Like it. Feels like truck doesn't have to work as hard just driving to work this AM).
