Questions for an LED guru

Hey guys,

So I have purchased some 12" 12-RGB LED lights strips with color controller from ebay. I wanted to get the "mood Lighting" effect like the newer flex and edge cars. Ran all 10 strips together and everything worked fine on my bench but when I soldered up a 6 way harness to distribute them through the truck I ran into trouble and smoked my control box.

My question is, The control box is good for 10 strips, I made my harness from 18-4 stranded wire soldered and shrinked. Is it possible that my harness wire is too heavy and it over amped my control box?

Im at a loss...literally.

Thanks, Remy

Larger AWG wire would not overload anything. The AMP draw from the controller is the same, if you use larger AWG wire, the devices will get the Amps, vs the wire ( way under sized wire acts like a resistor ).

The strips only draw so much, so it should not be a case of AMP draw from them ( if installed correctly )

The 6 way harness, did you cross any of the wires ?

How were the strips hooked together on the bench ( series or parallel ) ?

Hey SScully,

Thanks for the reply, it must be that one of the connections has crossed, turns out I burned up the GREEN color control in the module, have another on the way and goin to tone out my harness tomorrow.

Thanks again
