2004 f-140 xlt no Tail lights or dash lights

i have no tail lights or dash lights on my 2004 f-150xlt but the brake lights do come on. The fog lights only come on while the high beams are on. when you turn the fog lights off the little light for the foglights on the switch blinks once.
i dunno if this is a short somewhere or is the switch bad. tryin to figure out how to remove the switch. any help would be great.

Did you check the fuse for the parking lamps ?

Both of these have a common fuse, the parking lamp fuse. The dash lamps have another fuse after the switch, before the dimmer.

The guy that owned the truck before me said he had trailer brakes hooked up with a box and he said the dealer said that was the probelm soo they uninstalled the trailer brakes box but that wasent it. im wondering if the wiring harness would have a short or somthing and how do i cheack that. i have cheacked all fuses everything is fine. i know when i turn the headlights on the fuse box clicks. im not really good with electrical stuff but willing to learn.

Do the front parking lamps work ?

If not, and if the fuse is good, and you do not have power at the bulb connector, then you have it down to a bad switch.

If they do, you have an issue with the wiring.

Did you check the splice locations for the non factory trailer plug ?

Also just found out 5 mins ago the whole passenger side is wet right where the wiring harness goes along the little channel in the floor. I did a search and i guess its the 3rd brake light leaking. If its not the head light switch i guess it is this leak that messed up something with the wiring harness. If there is a short from it being wet wouldent i have a blown fuse? this sucks i just got the truck and need to get it inspected and on the road

i also found out the truck came with a factory towing box for trailer brakes dunno if this helps but it was remove by the dealer he says.

I just spent the last 2 days working on my truck for the same problem. It ended up being a short in one of the rear license plate lights. I hit a pot hole with my truck and lost all the parking lights and dash lights. It blew a fuse under the hood. it was a 15 amp fuse. It was the fuse for the parking lamps. Look in your owners manual for the location. I found the short by looking at the sockets for all the lights. this one was melted.

I just fixed my 04 FX4 with similar problems. It was a loose junction connection under the left kick panel. The junction is bolted together and the bolt was loose, I titened it and my tail lights came back on, plus a hole lot more in my truck started to work again. Just my 2 cents.
