HELP! something weird is happening

About 1 out of 4 times when I start my truck the speedometer needle and a couple other needles go crazy. They vibrate very fast and there is a ticking noise for about 3 seconds after my truck is turned on. The truck seems to run a little slower than usual when the needles go crazy but is fine and dandy after everything turns back to normal. The battery connections are tight and clean. What gives? Anybody else run into this?

Is it all the needles ?

What do you mean by go crazy ( are they moving lower than 0, then back up again ) ?

When was the last time you replaced the battery ?

It's a warning that the battery is going bad.

I had the battery checked about 1-2 months ago and they said it was fine. The needles go from resting to vibrating back and forth very quickly. On the speedometer it goes from 0-3 on the needle like rattlesnake rattles! I will check the battery again. thanks

Modern batteries can go bad almost overnight! It's not very comforting to know this, but it's true. Fortunately, the "gauge problem" provides some warning.
