Question '01 F-150 Intermittent turn signals

I need help trying to figure out why the turn signals will only work when the steering colum is in a specific position. When ever I tilt the steering colum either up or down then the turn signals fail to work in either right or left directions....Any ideas..?

That sounds like the symptoms of when the connector at the base of the steering wheel column is pulling apart.

If you remove the knee / anti submarine panel, and check at the base, you should see the connector that goes up the steering wheel column ( towards the MFS ). It should be pulled tight in one of the tilt positions.

Pull up some slack from the truck side, and wire tie it to the frame for the knee panel, and check the connector pins for discoloration.
If so, clean them with a typewriter eraser, put the connector back together, and make sure the locking tab on the connector still works. You might have to sue small wire ties to hold it together.

re-test prior to putting the knee panel back on, to make sure where you wire tied it, is not going to pull it apart again.

Thank you for the reply. You were right on target about what was the problem... I removed the panels as you suggested and found the connector was just barely hanging on. What I found was the clips the hold the connector in place were broke off...? I am wondering if this happend a while back when I had the ignition switch replaced..? I was able to use a tyrap (cable tie) to hold it in place and then tilted the steering colum up & down to make sure it worked in all positions...It did just fine...

Again thank you for your insight.

SSCULLY, You are a god. I am so glad you are here on this forum to answer questions and dispense your knowledge about F150 electrical *anything* when anyone needs it.

While I have not had an electrical issue yet, knock on wood, I know when I do you will not mind helping out.

Thank you You Rock

Could be, most of the time it is just age and the wire pulling towards the truck side over time. The other cases ( with the broken tabs included ) never had an ignition switch installed, so I would say it is not from that ? Just a SWAG.
