Blackout!! Help!!
ok boys lastnite i realized my guage cluster lights arent working the guages still tell me mph gas n rpms but no light!? what happened? also i saw that me running tail lights are working either are they related? and another thing is i know every one here has left their lights on after you turn your truck off and you hear that annoying chime after you pulls out the key. well i dont hear that any more either is this all one big problem or a bunch of different ones???

If I read your post correctly, the cluster illumination and the park lamps do not work. Is this both front and rear park lamps ?
Start with checking the fuse for the park lamps. This is the same circuit that powers the instrument cluster illumination.
Make sure the cluster dimmer is rotated all the way up (prior to the click for the interior lamps).
Do you have any modifications to the truck ( added a gauge, line of fire, etc ).

First of all thanks for respopnding and no mods but a sound system. and no its just my tails that wont light. and would by any chance know what fuse that is, i have pulled out a few and none are blown what would it be called in the owners manual?
It is fuse #6 ( Parklamps, BSM, Instrument panel illumination )
If they work in the front is should not be the fuse.
The sound system, I assume this is a different head unit ? If so, that counts, the illumination circuit to the factory radio is the same as the cluster illumination.

Ok yea that fuse was blown i put a 20 in there while i went to go get a 15 so i could replace it and it blew the 20 fuse too. and the parking lights in the front didnt work i thought they were. so where should i look and what should i be looking for?
Going to have to separate the system somewhere to know which way to look.
You can pull the connector for the cluster illumination / dim and see if the fuse still blows.
- The removes the interior illumination and the cluster, leaving only the parking lamps on that fuse.
This is on the back of the main headlamp switch, the small 6 pin connector.

If the fuse still blows, the place to look is inside the cab of the truck, if not the outside is the route we need to go.

Ok i'm pretty sure that the problem has to be with my stereo wiring because i didnt have this problem before my buddie hook up my aftermarket headunit if this is the case what wires should o be lookin for that shoulnt be touching or be causing this problem??

The cluster illumination is a Light Blue w/ Red stripe wire on the output side of the dimmer switch.
Did you remove the main headlamp switch, and remove the small connector and retest for the blown fuse ?

ok i havent removed ny thing but the center dash where the radio is nothing else in the truck has been messed with. we just wired up an after market headunit and that is it. could one of those wires be the cause of my problem?
Ok sorry bout that no i hadnt removed it. i have good news and bad news. good news found the problem. my buddy wired together the red ignition wire to the yellow 12volt wire. bad news now my head unit doesnt want to work.

I know this post is older but I thought I would reply since I had the same problem and was able to figure it out.
My Alpine system does not have a dimmer setting so the wire from the new harness kept on shorting out my fuse 6. I removed the wire from the new harness, and all is well.

Not sure why it would do this, but if you want illumination that is not dimmed, use the Brown wire to the parking lamps ( with an inline fuse ). This will give you illumination without dimming to a lower voltage.
Just a thought.

This is actually just a case of rushing and "wanting my project to be done". I forget to cap the wire coming from the truck, through the new wire harness, for the dimming effect with your dashboard lights.
The Alpine HU has no illumination(Dimmer) wire so I should of just capped it or taped it.....but I forgot and it kept on shorting out my fuse #6.
Tape those unused wires!!
