1998 Ford F150 Headlight issue
1998 Ford F150 Headlight issue - High Beam/DRL okay, no Low Beam
Hi Guys,
I have an F150 that I can't get the low beams working on.
I have disassembled the MFS and cleaned all contacts. It functions without any issues. (signals, high beams flash, high beams come on, but no low beams)
I have DRL (Daytime Running Lights) and they function as expected. The high beams also function as expected. I think it may be the DRL relay as they work but the low beams never come on. I know the low beam circuit runs through a resistor for DRLs, so the circuit and fuses are good, it just never kicks into regular low beams. Even if I could take the DRL resistor out of the equation I think it would work.
Were is the DRL resistor on a 1998 F150?
Any assistance is appreciated.

No DRL resistor or DRL relays in the 1997 & 1998 MY trucks.
The 1997 & 1998 MY have a DRL module that pulses the voltage to create the same additional resistance load as the 1999 + MY trucks have with the DRL resistor.
I would say either low beam fuses or low beam bulb ( as masseyman posted ).
The 1997 & 1998 MY, the DRL is on the high beam element on the bulb.
Check fuses #26 & #28, and if they are good, check the bulb connector for power on the low beam circuit ( L= Dark Blue w/ White stripe / R=Dark Green w/ Orange Stripe | Black is ground on the bulb connectors ).

Okay thanks for the clarification. I will test for power on both sides of 26 and 28. I had the multi****ion switch out and one of the spring loaded contacts is really burnt. I would assume the MFS is downstream of the fuse box. The contact in question is definately related to high/low function.
Should I just put a new switch in?

Fuse -> main headlamp switch -> MFS -> Fuses -> headlamps
When testing 26 & 28, make sure the main headlamp switch is turned to the headlamp position, and the MFS is pulled back ( in the low beam position ), else the fuse will be dead on both sides.

Are you asking if the ground side is what the switch activates to turn the headlamp on / off ?
If I read that correctly, no it is +VDC.
