87 battery jumping

87 battery jumping

When I try to hook up a brand new battery it jumps and i know i am putting them on the correct posts, and all the lights are off, and so is the ignition what can i do?

The battery "jumps"? I'm sorry, I've never seen a battery even "crawl" when I hooked one up. How the heck are you getting the battery to move at all? Those things are HEAVY!

Are you possibly saying there is a spark at a battery terminal when you connect a cable? If so, a small spark is normal. There's a few systems in your truck that are ALWAYS on, like the radio.

You are hooking the positive cable first, right? No spark there, right?

You get a spark when you apply the negative cable? Is it a small one or a big one? If it's a big one, you've probably got something that's shorting to ground somewhere in your truck. You'll have to look for frayed wires that are possibly contacting the frame. This can be a VERY tedious process! You didn't say, but I assume the doors are shut? Radio is off?
