Radio install gone wrong, now huge electrical issues.
Radio install gone wrong, now huge electrical issues.
Awhile back I had A head unit, door components and subs installed in my 04 by a guy on the side(Big mistake). Well a couple months later water got into both door grommets and filled the door sill groove with the main harreness running thru it full of water. Truck wouldn't start so I took a heat gun to the wiring truck starts then shorts a bunch of stuff out.
Radio now stays on after door is opened & key is off. Shuts off after 10minutes.
Windows still roll up/down after door is open & key is off. Also shuts off/ stops working after 10minutes. These 2 things are the biggest problems as I now carry a jump box and jumper cables around with me cause the battery is always dead and now shot from the constant drain it sees.
Doors lock buttons do nothing.
Heat only works on high.
Key less entry doesn't work.
The auto on/off headlights doesnt work anymore either.
After I got everything dried out the Body security module(Is this the same as the body control module?) made a lot of clicking and I believe it shorted out. Its now unplugged.
Do you think it shorted the main computer or do you think buying a new BCM and heater control resistor will fix all these problems?
Any info would be appreciated I'd like to fix this myself and not bring it to the dealer and get raped.

I would take a look for the splice in the door sill that causes these problems.
Here is a thread on the topic.

As for the question on the BSM, it is a BSM/VSM ( Body, now Vehicle Security Module ), not a BCM.
BCM is more a GM term, for Body Control Module.
The functions that would be in a BCM, are in the SJB ( Smart Junction Box ) on the 09+ MY trucks, the SuperDuty line for some time has had the SJB ( vs the 97-08 MY cab fuse panel term of CJB or Central Junction Box ).
This is for functions like light control ( 97-08 MY has the wires to the lamps, through the switch itself, where the SJB take a signal from the switch, and turns on the lamps ) and the likes.
Should do away with issues like the MFs causing problems with the brake lamps, but I can only hope it will work better than a GM BCM, those things can act strange for no reason, and a reflash can get brake lamps to start working again ( where the turn signals always worked ?? )
