Time to replace? (Battery is 6 years old)

My Optima Red Top #34 battery is 6 years old. I have a slight hesitation when I start my truck. When should I replace the battery? Thanks

Have the battery load tested. That should tell you without question. I have a good idea it is getting ready for the big dirt nap. I am amazed it has lasted this long.

Yes it's time has come ! Especially if you've ever discharged it completely.

Red top was worth the cash? What battery are you going to buy next?

As soon as you start to question it, start to notice it, it's time. That Platinum looks like a nice battery, and the Interstate Mega-tron Plus is all you need.

That's a lot of money for a battery, but I think if I lived where you do it would definitely be worth it for the peace of mind.

i'd wait until it dies if money is tight right now...

unless you plan on making some long distance runs with it, then for piece of mind alone, get a new one...

but if you never go 5 miles from your house, i wouldn't worry about it..

I ended up purchasing an Everstart Maxx 65N battery for $75.00.
850 CCA Maintenance free.
Consumer Reports scored it at 76 with a Best Buy rating.
My truck is starting smoothly & I am ready for the cold weather.
The only complaint I have is that there was no manufacture date to be found. I have heard it is not good to purchase a battery that has been on the shelf over 6 months.

The manufacturers date may be stamped into the case on the top side rim. If so, it has to be decoded. What you heard is probably true.
